  • Happy April 1st, and thank you to everyone who requested this video! Sorry it has taken me so long to publish a video on bacon grease as engine oil. It was a really fun video with some surprising results. Please do not use bacon grease as engine oil as it will definitely cause significant problems in an engine. Again, this was a fun video. Next week we'll continue our SAE 5W-30 synthetic oil championship series.

what you need to do is run with oil----then take off the head---take a picture, but do not clean it----then run with bacon grease to see if the grease will clean cylinder head.....

Impressive... but can you try ghee? - the melted butter without the lactose... the theory is that gee has very high temperature resistance and should not burn that much.

If it's good for an engine, it's good for the veins!

could you use a diesel additive to help keep the bacon grease liquid? or could you use some sort of oil/grease, gas/grease, or diesel/grease mix to improve lubricity?

If you live in a warm climate and have a sure-fire way to start it cold, the only other downside to bacon grease is the corrosion from the salt.. solution? Use lard. I'm starting to think this might be a good idea.. The abrasion reduction and cleaning properties are nothing to dismiss and well worth burning a little lube.. many folks pay big bucks for thinner 20-50 race oil, but surely a high power motor will be way to hot to run grease. A long stroke motorcycle engine though...

Well, interesting, so bacon grease is cleaner that 10w30? As I can see the combustion chamber is very clean

Yeah, but, how did it smell when you ran the lawnmower? Did it have a nice bacony aroma to it? Because that would be the real draw to using bacon grease.

Nice video. You missed measuring the cholesterol level of that engine though.

Peanut or sunflower oil would probably work better, as they have higher temperature tolerances. At least that's how it works when you are cooking French fries.

Just above the 10 minutes mark, for monetization purposes. For a video that can be wrapped up in 5 minutes at most.

It might get you home in a pinch, but you will have a lot of work to do on that engine after a 100 mile drive.
