I got a 2012 Toyota Prius C with an Aisin CVT. It does have the rubber band effect but I am use to it. It has 117,111 miles. The car is only 99 HP so a cvt don't hunt for gears like an automatic. It was one of the early CVTs and I took a good risk buying a first model year car. Thank god it is not a Japco trans.

I dont understand why this man is so biased and hate for Nissan cars especially altima CVT. I own 2014 model 3.5L SL in UAE. I have clocked 90k km and only thing I spend on it so far is regular oil change @ every 10k kms. Touch wood so far so good... and it still drives smoothly like a new car.

I love buying cars that have 150,000 on them plug up my obd check the codes quick test drive. In my mind if it made it 150,000 and isn’t throwing a code then it will got to 200,000 easy

Why did Honda put “normal” transmissions in their Touring trim level and CVT in the less expensive models?

My 2016 Nissan Rogue sl transmission failed at 23k miles ... 23k! Now they fixed it free of charge at the time but that’s just sad how Nissan screws customers with ever sale.

Yeah this is my dilemma. I drive a 2011 subaru with an auto not a cvt. My wife and I love that car and are really considering a forester or outback as her next car but... the CVT. We have always had reliable cars, buick and toyota, were our previous cars so I am very worried about the CVT issues. I'm curious if it is the way people drive and use their cars with cvts. For example, do you think that hauling a lot, driving in a mountainous environment, and accellerating/decelerating rapidly is what causes them to break?

CVTs belong on snowmobiles, not cars.

Why not a manual 4 speed with a servo operated clutch? Cord had this in 1933. That would give you the benefit of a manual with clutchless shifting.

From what I have been reading and watching I afraid no mater what car we now buy it be a cheaper poorer made virgin then the one we bought years before A few years ago Car manufacture had a problem with emission control as on auto they could not get it gas mileage low enough. So they went the way of the CVT And were now stuck with it All cars will eventfully have CVT in them there be no manuals. any more I found out that most CVT transmission only cost the Car manufacture around about $700.00 US dollars to produce. The problem with them is CTV transmission fluid not like an ATF transmission fluid in that those belt and cones produce a lot of heat. And over time they brake down the viscosity of the CTV fluid far faster then ATF transmission fluid when this happens The CTV gets a wine in the CTV transmission this can cause belt slippage. CTV transmission safe mode fault. The last stage is when the belt will start sticking to the cones Then the belt will start tearing it self apart and finely brake But if it has not gone on for to long people with these CTV problems have reported Just changing the CTV fluid seem to fix it.
