You’ve been chosen as a champion to represent your wizarding house in a deadly duel against two rival magic schools. Your opponents are a powerful sorcerer who wields a wand that can turn people into fish, and a powerful enchantress who wields a wand that turns people into statues. Can you choose a wand and devise a strategy that ensures you will win the duel? Dan Finkel shows how.

My Strategy: Take the Gaussian along with the case then throw the case towards where the enchantress is and hit it with the gaussian thus it turns into a tree now if the Enchantress tries to shoot you then it will hit the tree instead of you, now the wizard will of course shoot the enchantress because if he shoots you then he gets turned into a statue so he will shoot the enchantress and then you safely turn the wizard into a tree.

Oh, we're leaving information out? OK, I forgot to mention that I am a transfiguration wizard and thus have zero threat from being turned into an animal, meaning I can send the enchantress to the mountain top, and then turn back into a human after being turned into a fish. gg no re

Wait, you never said the other wizards would know how powerful my wand was.

Or take the Gaussian and spam it until the wizard and the enchantress turns into a tree. Then look at the judge.😊

i already know the answeri have read something similiar like this when i just a kid at elementary school, it was science comic bookbut it minus the wand ability just the sorcery skill, but in the comic it was skillfull archer with their weapon, and the answer is to shoot to the sky (same, to miss)

The answer is, they only know one transfiguration spell. Their schools are horrible.

I don't get why if you miss on purpose with a 100% wand you manage to win 1.6% of the time. Shouldn't it be 0%? The second guy should also pass, so either the last lady gets you or all of you are turned in to cats

I disagree with this. First, if the wizards know that I can changes weapons, and they know I have the option of changing to a weapon that is 100% effective, I will always be the first target. Second, how is it that I am the only wizard that gets to change weapons? This is either unfair, or the other wizards also can change weapons. This is not even a strategy riddle, this is nonsense.

Surely the best strategy is to try the teleporting wand and use the 100% accuracy to send YOURSELF to a remote mountaintop?

  • Paul Fuge

So you can miss on purpose, and take an extra turn. The heck?!

The ability to miss was kind of important information...

That, or use a gun to kill both of them. like missing, it wasn't AGAINST the rules, just not accounted for.

just use the vine wand to make a protective shield on you. The spell will hit the "vine" after one has taken the other out, giving you another chance to hit.

Maybe im crazy but i reckon:Eat 2 apples is simple: 60% chance first apple you eat is poison, 50% chance second one is also poison, so 30% chance you die.Eat three apples is more complex, heres where permutations do matter. There are 3 death scenarios: 1st and 2nd apples you eat are poison, 1st and 3rd, or 2nd and 3rd. The chance you die will be the sum of these 3.40% first apple is poison, 25% second is also poison, third is irrelevant (100%). 10% chance you die this way.40% first apple is poison, 75% second apple is safe, 33% last apple is poison. 10% chance you die this way.60% first apple is safe, 50% second apple is poison, 33% last apple is poison. 10% chance you die this way.10+10+10=30% chance of deathSo it does seem to me that your chances of dying are the same regardless of basket choice

My strategy is to beat them to death with the star shaped wand. You never said that blunt weapons aint allowed.

0.58: 'anyone who casts out of order immediately forfeits the duel'So why not take the Noether 9000 and send magician no.2 to the mountain. Presumably he can't cast his spell from the mountain and the enchantress no.3 will then cast out of order and forfeit, leaving us as the winner! 🤔

Why not take Noether 9000 and banish yourself to the mountain top? You wouldn't die, you'd just be at a mountain top. I think that's better that dieing or getting turned into a cat. Another option, I'd just shoot randomly out of turn, thus getting eliminated. I'd rather get eliminated and lose

If missing on purpose is legal, and you need to be the last one standing, just pick the wand that sends the target to a distant mountaintop 100% of the time and aim it at yourself. They never specified WHERE the last person must be standing!

  • Jarrakul
    Jarrakul   1 weeks ago

Even if we discard missing on purpose as outside the realm of the logic puzzle as presented, the 60% wand still has the highest win percentage. In part because there's a 40% chance you miss the first shot anyway.
