Do Electric Turbos Actually Work? Let's find out!

  • Do electric turbos actually help improve horsepower and torque? This scientific assessment uses a 900 CFM fan motor used as turbo on an old RV called the Farmabago. By the way, thanks to all who voted on the name for the RV. Farmabago" received 33% of the 32,000 votes, and the name "Cousin Eddy" received 27%. Before turbo is tested, stuck exhaust valve and broken push rod was repaired. Also, damaged mufflers removed and replaced with straight pipes and 12-inch exhaust ends added. After all the upgrades, the Farmabago makes two timed runs to determine if the electric turbo delivered more torque and horsepower.

    Throttle response is primarily a function of engine design. I think, it'll definitely do better if air filter is changed and some weight reduced!!

    Wow!! what a vid. The farm a bay go tree pruning was one thing, BUT, giving the cows a head start in the drag race,awesome.     One thing would like to see is someone like you that's just testing to see if it works, try the ground gas generator on the big block. In theory you should get more power from the ground gas because the increased number of oxygen molecules and the hydrogen molecules adding to the fuel mix.

    I feel like turbo is the wrong name for it, it's more like a supercharger, and normal superchargers sap 10s of kW from the engine (parasitic loss), so a 1/4hp (like 200w) blower, which probably has very little pressure head, wouldn't do anything. Also that Turbo is the short name for Turbine Compressor, Turbo being the energy recovery (exhaust) side, compressor is the, well compressor side. Proper electric turbos would still use a compressor wheel, rather than what... this thing uses, which is optimised for CFM in open spaces not getting the air above atmospheric pressure. Because the engine valves induce a pressure loss (which is part of why pumping loss is a thing), you really need more pressure to get air past them.

    Poor rv. I live in an rv about the same age and I love rvs but I nvr thought I'd see an rv shoot flames out the tail pipe. If u don't destroy it I'll take it.

    This is the first video I’ve watched since watching a bunch of fuel comparisons with lawn mower engines etc. Those vids were great! Then when you solely went towards product comparisons, I trailed off. Then when I saw this I thought β€œhell yeah, I’ll give this a shot!” So yeah, keep these sort of vids coming! πŸ‘
