Being a citizen of the European Union means that many aspects of our lives are regulated by a weird entity. It feels like a huge bureaucracy is making decisions over our heads. How democratic is the EU really and does your vote actually affect anything?

“The Germans got what they wanted in peace what they couldn’t get in war”. The German Question remains prevalent today so many years after WW2.

The EU Parliament has no right of initiative. Please mention just how much money the EU misappropriates and who is paying and who isn't. The countries who want to join might well say just how much they love democracy, sharing and pluralism but are only interested in getting money. Those countries the EU really needs to join (Norway, Switzerland and Iceland) won't because they'll end up being net contributors. The whole thing stinks to high heaven and is corrupt to it's core.

The fact that 8 minute video explained how EU works better than politicians representing governments of each european state making profit out of it makes me wonder why only useless and stupid ppl gets into politics.

Speak for yourself, I never feel anything of the sorts about the EU. The only common criticism about the EU I hear in my part of it, is that it is not taking care of enough yet and taking too long to further unify, all of which is a criticism of Euroscepticism like yours, not the EU as an entity.

EU is more and more a bunch of incompetence. Here in Germany, we say "für Europa reicht's" (for europe, its enough) - basicially because we send all the politicians to Brussel that failed on federal or state level. Reduce it to an economic union but not a politicial ones. Everything is in a better situation then, excpect Greeks. They will be wasting money in all systems anyways

I'd like to note a major point you made that is actually moot, if the commission proposes new legislation that is then approved by the parliament but is firmly opposed by the people, it is true that we can then simply remove those members by voting them out of office, but that achieves absolutely nothing since they cannot propose new legislation, so the commission can just do something else. It prevents them from going further with laws we don't agree with, but it doesn't stop them from imposing these laws on us in the first place, they can just bide their time until no one is paying attention and then go further, then hold off while the reaction is strong and wait for it to die down, and rinse and repeat until they have what they want since there is no way for the directly elected part of the European Union to act on the behalf of its citizens by repealing or proposing laws. So in effect the Parliament is just an advisory body, and advice can of course just be ignored.

If brexit has proven anything, its that the EU an many Britons HATE democracy. A vote goes a way you dont like? Well just kick, scream and sabotage to stop it happening and get your way later. So in answer to the beginning of the video, no, your vote doesnt count and the EU is not democratic.

Lets also not lose sight of one goal of the EU. To prevent another war. Yes, the EU has its flaws but what nation-state doesn't?. The EU was started to prevent another war and by far and large, it has succeeded. Over the last eighty years, Europe has seen very little war with the exception of what happened un the Yugoslav nation-states. Europe is presently seeing the longest stretch of peace in its entire history.

"Why there is such a problem in this crisis? Because member states are reluctant to transfer new sovereignty and power to the European Union, and we all know that the only way out of this crisis is a new transfer of powers to the European Union, and to the European institution."- Guy Verhofstadt
