Is Castrol Motor Oil better than Kendall? Let's find out!

  • Published on: 20 May 2019
  • Castrol vs Kendall and Quaker State vs Valvoline competing for the final two positions in the Elite 8 oil series showdown. I am not sponsored by Castrol, Kendall, Quaker State, Valvoline or any other manufacturer. I purchased all of the products tested. 100% of Project Farm videos are ideas that come from those leaving comments. So, thank you very much for requesting this video! In the previous episodes, Amsoil won over Royal Purple, Amazon won over Liqui Moli, and Red Line won over Super Tech, Pennzoil over Lucas, and Penrite over Motul. The brands that won will advance to next round in the oil championship series.

The testing methods outlined in this video are my own and not performed using expensive oil lab testing equipment or following the ASTM, SAE or API testing standards. The three tests outlined in the video include tests for viscosity at varying temperatures, film strength, and evaporative testing. In my opinion, the testing approaches used in this video provide consumers with valuable information on choosing the right motor oil for their specific application. Hope you enjoy the video and thank you very much for supporting the channel by watching the commercials and through Patreon support.

The only thing I would like to see added to the testing would be running the lubricity test again after the oils were heated and cooled.

Racing oil down a tube doesnt mean anything. Run them in a engine and pull the valve cover. Then you will see who the real deal is

Money Saving hack, Valvoline makes napa auto parts oil. (its the same thing just branded napa) napa has great sales from time to time. full syn can be had around $3.50 a qt at my locations (sale price). Look on the bottle it says made by Valvoline oil. Check it out if you'er okay with the Valvoline's performance. Good clip PF!

Love your content. It's always very informative and the tests are always well designed. I think it would be interesting to compare Valvoline Full Synthetic to its high mileage variant (and other brands' high mileage vs non high mileage). Not sure if that's enough to make a whole video out of, but I've always wondered if it really makes a difference... 🤔

Great shows and lots of info. Keep up the good work. Like anything it must be cost effective to be practical. I happened to find my old gasoline engine and took it apart to check and maybe replace rings. Found an oil pump that squirted oil from the sump and lubricated the cylinder. Neat idea. Though you might enlighten viewers about other engines that might have some type of oil pumping other than splash and if it is worth the extra cost. Seen John Deere 4020 engine with spray to the cylinders for better lube and longer life. Suggest you consider this as a topic and lay out the facts and cost and see if it makes since and improves the life of the engine any other ware reduction might be worth the effort also. Thanks for those great videos. PS: you might use one of those snake like camera's you can stick inside and see what is going on and how much the oil is lubricating.

i wouldn't trust quaker state in my lawnmower. It's ruined many engine years ago. It turned into sludge gumming up and seizing engines.

I'm a Quick Lube owner/operator for over 22yrs. I've featured Pennzoil, Castrol, Havoline, and now Kendall, however I've sold about all domestic and some Euro brands. Coming from REAL hands on experience, these tests are what the REAL WORLD needs to see. GOOD JOB!!! TY

How about you do an oil change on your vehicle at different mileages (1,000 mi 2,500 mi, 3,000 mi, 5,000 mi) with the brand you like to use and see what the results are. The oil from your vehicle is getting the proper use it intended for and giving you real time results.

Awesome, thank you for taking the time to make these very informative videos! Maybe test Castrol Magnatec in the future? The ads for Castrol Magnatec claim that the oil sticks to metal surfaces to prevent wear, which I think would be an interesting thing to test.

  • jason puttock

question. The anti wear test. are you using the cooked oil version or the never heated version.???? I would think using the cooked version would be the test decider. Would this not determine whether the properties are holding upto their claim status.? Or a before and after heat cycle testing. Or would this only work if the oil has been used for the claimed 12000 miles usage.? I think Amsoil will win overall.
