The first and last time I had my oil changed at Walmart, they used a torque gun to tighten the pan bolt. At first they claimed it wasn't their fault because I, of course, wasn't in their system (keep your receipts). Long story short, they replaced my pan and gave me 4 free changes, which I threw away in front of them.

There is a specific torque for the oil drain screw. Even if there's no information about a specific car, there are some well standard values for aluminum oil pans or normal oil pans. That's what happens when some "aficionado" tells us that we do it wrong.

Way back I learned that if a car had a turbo then the filter should be filled with oil before installing it so the oil gets to the turbo faster instead of having to fill up the filter first. So even though I've never had a turbo I have always done it since because it made sense to me. I figure that it couldn't hurt.

No prefilling the new filter!!!? Even on my car that has that can filter on an angle, I always try to put as much oil in it as I can.

I put in the 5W30 oil, just like Scotty said to. The my engine exploded. I must have added it incorrectly. Will watch video again

Oil gets dirty and the filter only filters for so long. Even worse if you have a tgdi engine. NA doesn’t have hot turbos and excessive carbon breaking down the oil as fast.

Always change while hot because when you wait until it is cool deposits that settle into the bottom oil pan are way less likely to come out.

I wouldn't buy a vehicle that the oil filter is sideways like that. Mainly because you should always fill the new filter with oil before putting it on the engine. Not doing so means that when you start the vehicle the first time after an oil change that you're dry starting it until the filter has been filled and soaked with oil. I always fill my new filter with new oil, let it sit for a few minutes and fill it again after it has burped itself. People that install a dry filter are damaging their engine a little after each oil change. 🤦‍♂️

I fill my filters with new oil before I put them on. Not all the way just so it absorbs some.

Turn the oil jug to it’s side. It flow a lot more smoothly.

Pre fill your filter. Your engine will get oil faster and old engines with old oil pumps might have trouble drawing the oil through. I always pre fill the filters.

My car reccomends 5w30. But in saying that is a factory new.motor. seeing mine has 100,000 miles or so i changed to 10w40. Little bit thicker for the slightly warn internals.

  • Master

Well the only engine that should use a different oil is any Toyota that has a 2azfe in it when it first came out it used 5w20 but because of oil burning problem 0w20 is now recommend

Lol it’s actually okay to put thicker oil in your engine if it’s has high mileage. It’s a method of improving oil pressure in the engine. So he’s wrong about that one. Just keep in mind you can’t to drastically thicker on the oil

Wrong! Government often sets the standards. 5w-30 is better for fuel economy. But I run 5w-40 for protection.

Car companies don't always spec the best oil. The same engine in one country can use one grade while using a different one in another country. I prefer to use what the viscosity recommended BEFORE regulations were a major factor because that is usually the better oil for the engine. It all depends on why the spec was changed, however. Do your homework.

Sorry don't use a new oil plug gasket every time maybe once a year if that. I use oil resistant Teflon tape on the threads. Same car 5 years.
