Amsoil or Pennzoil, which wins Championship? Let's find out!

  • Published on: 10 June 2019
  • Amsoil Signature Series 5W-30 100% synthetic motor oil competes against Pennzoil Ultra Platinum full synthetic 5W-30 motor oil in the oil championship finale. Other brands already tested in the oil playoffs include: Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amazon Basics, Quaker State, Lucas, Super Tech, Liqui Moly, Red Line, Kendall, Castrol, Valvoline, Motul, Penrite and Schaeffer's, all 5W-30 synthetic motor oils.

Regarding the independent lab oil analysis reports, I had the all the oils tested by an oil testing lab. I'm not sponsored by the testing lab and I paid the normal bulk testing rate. You can view the oil analysis reports for free at

    Oil Series Video Playlist:

I purchased all of the oils tested in this video and am not sponsored by any of the brands tested, nor do I sell any of the products tested. The testing methods outlined in this video are my own and not performed using expensive oil lab testing equipment or following the ASTM, SAE or API testing standards. The three tests outlined in the video include tests for viscosity at varying temperatures, film strength, and evaporative testing. In my opinion, the testing approaches used in this video provide consumers with valuable information on choosing the right motor oil for their specific application. Hope you enjoy the rest of the video and thank you very much for supporting the channel by watching the commercials and through Patreon support.

I I’ve been a Mobil 1 customer for many years. I was a aircraft mechanic in the Navy so I knew how good synthetic oil was already. I tried AMSOIL last year in my Cadillac ATS 3.6L. I was amazed how quickly I felt a difference in the engine. Runs smoother, accelerates much easier, and picked up 2 mpg. All I run in all my vehicles now is AMSOIL. I’ve never “felt” the results from any other oil. AMSOIL customer for life. I tell everyone about it.

I have a direct injection Mazdaspeed 3 with intake and hypertech tune. Was the penzoil for sure the one that lost the least weight as I been running regular 5w30 grey bottle Mobil 1 since new. It’s an 07 with 80,000 miles and runs great. I’m wondering if I should change to penzoil or maybe Amsoil? Hmm, I hate to switch as I’ve run Mobil 1 in all my stuff for 20 years.

Great work! would love to see some general pricing. Like you, I use Super Tech and i just add an additive (x-tra lube). This is 3-5x cheaper then buying top brand oils. Amazon is showing $30/qt for Amsoil now! Unless i was professionally racing a drag car or something would never pay that kind of money. Best bang for the buck is where its at.Would love to see an OIL ADDITIVE SHOOTOUT like this. Simulate real conditions by adding the additive w oil in recommended ration and at temp 150+deg.

AmsOIl is the best. I have been using it for over 18 years and have no leaks or smoke out of my tailpipe. It contains esters that keep your seals soft so they don't dry out crack and leak.

Have you ever tested Havoline? Walmart is selling 6qts of their full synthetic for $20! I bought two cases and I don’t believe you’ve showcased it. I need your expertise on this! Ha

I wonder how Royal Purple would've done against Pennzoil or another oil that advanced in the competition. I feel that the two possible best oils faced off too early

What a great video! Just for future reference it looks like you're using Excel to make your graphs with such small differences between the graphs peaks you can lower the Y starting point to show the differences more dramatically allowing people to see a bit better where differences really occur most!
