Advertisements! | British VS American | Evan Edinger & Jay Foreman

  • Published on: 21 July 2019
  • Advertisements and commercials vary so much between the US and the UK! In today's episode of British VS American, Jay Foreman and I will look into some of the weirder differences and discover a lot more than we expected about ads and some things we've been missing out on across the pond!
    Jay Foreman:

Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it! No but seriously. Thanks for all the support recently. I've been putting so much more effort into planning future videos, getting new people on, and editing the videos much more intricately. Thanks again so much for the support. x

If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

If one advert from your country had to win "Best Ad of All Time" which one would it be?

For specific ads that is targeted at people, in Scotland there are targeted ads on STV BBC with Glasgow Edinburgh Aberdeen Dundee and one or 2 other places only really for stv but BBC has a place in Inverness and Stornoway/western isles

And in the fine print for the drug ads they hide "may cause death".

In Ireland, advertisement is basically the same as the UK because we're heavily influenced by English Tv, mostly due to the proximity of the 2 islands. Over here instead of the BBC, we have RTE which means Raidió Teilifís Éireann in Irish and in English, it's radio, television, Ireland. It works the same way as the BBC but in Ireland, we can watch both stations. RTE also has 2 tv station I think 4 radio stations and a website. News wise, we don't really have localised news channels as it's such a small island. Instead, if you wanted the local news you would have to listen to the radio on the station that is local to you. For me that's LMFM but for people who live in Galway, it's Galway City FM. For ads, it's also very similar but unlike the US and UK, who only speak English, we have a tv channel called TG4 which only speaks in Irish. We also have our own radio station in Irish because of some areas in Ireland known as ”The Ghealtacht” only speak Irish. Our ads are also very minimal, it's not telling you to buy something it's more suggesting it. Also, I'm not sure if you have this in the UK and US but at 6 o clock, the Angelus is played, that seems to be a very Irish thing. But that's really it.

I’m so relieved we don’t have all those local advertisements that they get all the time in America. It seems like that would just eventually give you a migraine bombarding you all the time.

My mind has been blown. Whenever I'm watching the big bang theory on TV rather than Netflix, it's always a little sped up? My parents don't seem to notice but their voices sound higher and it's a little faster. I think I noticed it on Friends too, but they might've been American based channels?
