How Much Nitrous Can a Stock Engine Take? - Engine Masters Ep. 13

  • Published on: 05 September 2016
  • The 13th episode of Engine Masters, presented by AMSOIL, is an unlucky one for a poor little 305ci Chevy small-block. It was the victim of our test of how much nitrous oxide power boost can be tolerated by a completely stock short-block with the original cast crank, rods, and pistons. Yeah, it ends badly, but before the engine's demise we learn a lot, showing you how nitrous oxide increases horsepower and giving you tips on how to use it safely on any engine. You'll also learn a pretty good power combo for a 305 Chevy! Engine Masters is supported by Mr. Gasket and Earl's Vapor Guard.

For a 305 they built a strong little motor. Almost 360hp with a factory head and small cam. If they put a Rpm Air Gap on it with a bigger cam, something like a 236/244 on a 108 lsa i bet it would make more peak power and pack more punch mid range from the dual plane and tighter lsa.

So a 350 dollar junkyard 305... 1200 dollar set of heads from jegs.. 300 dollar cam from jegs... 300 dollar intake from jegs... 500 carb from jegs... And 750 dollar starter nitrous kit... Seems like a reliable little engine if you kept it around 450hp/375-380whp. And when you toast it--just do what the LS guys do.... Go back to the junkyard. I'd like to this with a set of FI pistons and crankkit at factory displacement. Probably safely play in the region of 550hp/475-485whp. Be fun in a street cruiser or a ratrod.

Nitrous isn’t dangers. It’s dangerous in the hands of a child. And the very idea of nitrous turns us all into children.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda Civic's with spoon engines. On top of that he just came into Harry's and ordered 3 t66 turbo's with NOS's and a Motec System Exhaust

Wow, that thing pinched a ring within a second. That was ALOT of heat, REAL fast! I thought it would have lasted at least a couple of seconds. If that was a Hyper piston, it probably would have shattered.

Non of y'all understand that there trying to see how far a stock bottom end will go with no gapping to the rings......its simple just cause its got a good set of heads don't mean nothing
